Talking the business of sports
Liv Morgan can finally proclaim to be a world champion. Morgan and the WWE universe celebrated her successful capture of the Money in the Bank briefcase on Saturday night. The energy only escalated when she successfully cashed in on Ronda Rousey to claim the SmackDown women's championship.
Fans have long desired to see Morgan's ascent into the main event. Their commitment was rewarded as WWE finally pulled the trigger on her title campaign.
Meanwhile on the men's side, none of the advertised superstars for the main event claimed the briefcase as that honor went to a surprise entrant.
CBS Sports was with you the whole way through the event, providing updates and highlights on the action.
Men's Money in the Bank ladder match -- Drew McIntyre vs. Seth Rollins vs. Riddle vs. Sami Zayn vs. Madcap Moss vs. Sheamus vs. Omos vs. Theory: Theory was a late addition to the match announced by authority figure Adam Pearce. It was teased during the match that Vince McMahon gifted Theory the spot after he lost the United States title to Bobby Lashley earlier in the night. Zayn took some serious abuse early as Moss tossed and slammed him into various ladders. Riddle was a madman throughout. A match highlight saw the ultimate bro land a Floating Bro off a ladder onto his opponents. Omos ran over the competition for a moment, but his size eventually got the better of him. The remainder of the field teamed up, hoisted him high and drove him through the announcer's table. McIntyre was on his way to retrieve the briefcase but was interrupted by Butch. Riddle removed Rollins from the equation with a Super RKO off the ladders. The victory was nearly his, but Theory swooped in at the last moment and captured the briefcase. The competitors put their bodies on the lines with a number of big spots. It was a chaotic match with a number of credible contenders. It probably won't go down as the greatest Money in the Bank ladder match, but it was lots of fun. Theory def. Drew McIntyre, Seth Rollins, Riddle, Sami Zayn, Madcap Moss, Sheamus and Omos to win the men's Money in the Bank briefcase. Grade: B+

SmackDown women's championship -- Ronda Rousey (c) vs. Liv Morgan: Morgan did not wait long to cash in her Money in the Bank briefcase. Rousey was noticeably limping during and after her successful title defense against Natalya. The crowd popped as Morgan's music hit and the ringside announcer confirmed that she was cashing her briefcase. Rousey snatched an extended ankle lock that had fans questioning if WWE were about to spoil Morgan's big moment. Morgan eventually countered into a schoolboy roll-up for the three count. The crowd roared with delight as Morgan's crowning moment came to fruition. The execution of the roll-up was messy, but who cares? This was a feel-good moment; sometimes that is all pro wrestling is about. The Las Vegas crowd chanted "you deserve it" as Morgan hoisted her world title high. Liv Morgan def. Ronda Rousey (c) to become the new SmackDown women's champion. Grade: A

SmackDown women's championship -- Ronda Rousey (c) vs. Natalya: Money in the Bank's (scheduled) penultimate match was a mixed bag. Moments of one-upmanship -- such as when Rousey and Natalya traded finishers -- were well-received. The chain wrestling exchanges went well enough, but there were a number of glaring issues with the match. Natalya's striking offense had little sting and Rousey over-sold on a few occasions. Most notably, Rousey hurled herself out of the ring with barely any contribution from Natalya. The exchange of submission holds at the end was a nice touch with Rousey finally securing her trademark armbar. Ronda Rousey (c) def. Natalya via submission to retain her title. Grade: C+
INCREDIBLE!@NatbyNature @RondaRousey #MITB pic.twitter.com/PRDx2ml41g
Undisputed WWE tag team championships -- The Usos (Jey Uso and Jimmy Uso) vs. The Street Profits (Angelo Dawkins and Montez Ford): Ford is generally perceived as the A-side of the Street Profits, but Dawkins really shined in this match. His front flip dive to the outside was stellar and his 360 enziguri kick was absurd for a man of his size. The match was oozing with charisma. Ford repeatedly telling The Usos to "suck it" from the top rope drew a massive reaction from the fans. Jimmy and Jey were at their gritty, braggadocious best. Both teams thumped with loud, believable strikes. The rest period in the middle of the match dragged too long, but the drama and intensity of the match's back-half fully made up for it. The live audience was red hot for both teams' near falls. Ford did -- as he often does -- steal the show by landing a front dive over the corner post to the outside. The Usos secured their title after disposing of Dawkins outside and planting Ford with the 1-D. It was revealed after the match that Ford's shoulder was actually off the mat, casting doubt on the outcome and setting up a rematch down the line. The Usos (c) def. Street Profits via pinfall to retain the undisputed WWE tag team championships. Grade: A
THIS IS AWE-SOME!!! 👏👏 👏👏👏#MITB pic.twitter.com/NMpKUeCl6b
Raw women's championship -- Bianca Belair (c) vs. Carmella: Belair and Carmella pieced together a short but solid match. Both women landed impactful offense and the entire match was clean. Belair showed off her wick athleticism with power bombs and backflips. Carmella had no problem drawing boos from the audience. Carmella's post-match attack on Belair felt unnecessary, but it didn't take or add to the match. Bianca Belair (c) def. Carmella via pinfall to retain her Raw women's championship. Grade: B

United States championship -- Theory (c) vs Bobby Lashley: The audience was firmly in Lashley's corner, breaking out into countless "Lashley" chants. Theory excelled as his usual smarmy self drawing jeers from the audience. Lashley's power spots included an impressive catch into a military press and catching Theory diving to the outside. Theory's movement was fluid and his strikes looked very crisp. Theory ultimately fell victim to Lashey's hurt lock and was forced to submit. A solid match from both participants. Bobby Lashley def. Austin Theory (c) via submission to capture the U.S. championship. Grade: B
BRILLIANT!@fightbobby #MITB pic.twitter.com/RABVFxpqyM
Women's Money in the Bank ladder match -- Alexa Bliss vs. Becky Lynch vs. Asuka vs. Liv Morgan vs. Raquel Rodriguez vs. Lacey Evans vs. Shotzi: The match suffered from a number of janky spots, from an early exchange between Asuka and Lynch to a rough ladder squat spot with Rodriguez. Lynch's dive off the ladder and Morgan's bounce back off the rope to win the match helped even things out. Morgan tossed Lynch off the ladder and retrieved the briefcase. The live crowd went bananas for Morgan's victory. The right woman absolutely won and it appeared as if WWE was ready to pull the trigger on Morgan as a world champion. Liv Morgan def. Becky Lynch, Asuka, Alexa Bliss, Raquel Rodriguez, Lacey Evans and Shotzi to win the women's Money in the Bank briefcase. Grade: B
