(Seguin) — The Seguin Matadors open District 12-5A play at homecoming tomorrow night at Matador Stadium when they host the Kyle Lehman Lobos. Both teams went 2-1 in non-district play. The Mats sandwiched wins over Alamo Heights and Laredo United around a loss to New Braunfels. The Lobos started 2-0 with wins over Bastrop and Austin McCallum before falling last week in Lockhart.
Both teams are lead by Seguin High School graduates in Bruce Salmon for Lehman and Craig Dailey for the Matadors.
Dailey says the Matador defense will have to be disciplined against Salmon’s Lobo Run-Pass Option attack.
“They’re a big RPO team. So, our secondary’s gotta be real disciplined and stay at home. They gotta see the ball handed off first. We’re just gonna have to be very disciplined in the secondary and wait until the ball is handed off.”
Defensively, Dailey says Lehman will present the Mat offensive line with a lot of different looks.
“They’re very multiple. They’re gonna give us a lot of different fronts. And our (offensive) line is gonna have to really communicate and be able to handle those different fronts for us to be successful on offense.”
Dailey’s Matadors will break out their gold jerseys for the first time this season against Salmon’s Lobos at homecoming Friday. Kickoff is set for 7:30 pm at Matador Stadium. We’ll have all the play by play action on KWED.
