The Steam Deck is very big. It is so big, in fact, that we're pretty sure it could beat up your dad and also eclipse the sun without breaking a sweat. People have been having a lot of fun comparing the Large Lad to a bunch of much smaller things, and even some average size things.
The Steam Deck is bigger than a Nintendo Switch. We already knew that, of course, but it's nice to see it from a different angle. It is even bigger than a Nintendo Switch with the Hori Split Pad Pro, which is impressive, because those things are also very big.
And, since we know you're DYING to ask:
It is also bigger than the Switch OLED.
The Steam Deck is also a lot larger than the Wii U Gamepad, which is impressive, because the first time we held a Gamepad it felt like someone had accidentally handed us an entire car dashboard instead of a controller. But no; compared to the Steam Deck, the Gamepad is just a wee lad.
This one isn't surprising, but the Steam Deck is bigger than a Game Boy Advance, and we'd be willing to bet that it's also bigger than a Game Boy Advance SP, too. Not so "advance" now, are you? With your piddly buttons and your itty-bitty screens! The future is wide, boys.
Hm? What's that? It is bigger than a Game Boy Advance SP? Even with the screen flipped open?!
Well, would ya look at that.
Finally, the Steam Deck is somehow exactly the same size as a Steam Deck.
What other objects do you think the Steam Deck is bigger than? Please keep your responses PG-13, or we will have to send the Steam Deck to have a word with your dad.
Formerly of Official Nintendo Magazine, GameSpot, and Xbox UK, you can now find Kate's writing all over the internet. She moved to Canada a few years ago, but gets tea imported from England, because she has good priorities.
Yeah... I think they missed the mark on that one... Somehow I don't see myself lugging around a skateboard just to play some games...
Can't see the whole picture, the steamdeck is bigger than my phone
Yeah, it's large, but can it do 10k with locked 240 FPS minimum? We are in the 21st century after all. Anything less is borderline terrorism.
Wow, it's pretty huge in comparison to the switch. Also that d-pad placement way up in the corner seems odd.
It reminds me of that infamous GameCube keyboard controller. Looks super comfortable! Two thumbs up!
EDIT: finally googled up the local embedding code.š
lol at the last comparison, anyways yeah I'm getting this. I just rather play my PC games on something other my computer, mainly my big TV, no idea why. But apparently my graphics card isn't good enough to use my TV without turning the quality down to "potato" or something. lol
I got a freaking GTX 1050, too. >_> Not the latest, but still, wtf? lol
Its all about optimizing those settings friend.
Turn down the stuff that isnāt critical to the visual presentation. Most gameās auto settings are terrible. Got to play around with them.
A GTX 1050 should have no problem playing most games from two years ago or older on PS4 equivalent settings, with a higher framerate than the PS4 could ever hope to achieve.
Not only does it look massive, it looks thick too. Like a Yorkie bar next to an after eight mint!
Ok sure, the Steam Deck is more powerful than the Switch, but does it have stability updates?
@TheRedComet I've tried and it just defaults everything to low, it won't let me raise the resolution at all so everything just looks pixely regardless. It's just a pain in the butt and I'd rather just get this and hook it up to my TV that way and not worry about that stuff. lol
And this thing is absolutely enormous.
Donāt get me wrong, the hardware inside of it is impressive. But I consider the Switch too big for true handheld gaming. So this thing is on a different level.
Can I has mine now please? Can't wait. Just hoping for some more optimised download sizes. Those 100g's are scary.
@SuperZeldaFun apple bananas exists and at first I saw the header i was like "this tells me nothing of the size"
@IronMan30 Calm down Karen they're just talking about a device that has been compared to the Switch.
Waiting for the Steam Deck Lite
Even with the current graphics card market, Iād say upgrade your GPU if youāve already got a fairly decent CPU over a Steamdeck. Unless your on a laptop which in that case that isnāt really an option.
But if youāre on a desktop, a GTX 2060 is a huge upgrade over the GTX 1050. Even a GTX 1070 would be a good jump. The 1050 was a very underpowered card, even at the time of its release.
If you can find a good used price, the GTX 1080Ti is a fantastic card. Itāll outperform all of the non Ti RTX 2000 cards (with the exception of the original 2080) with Ray tracing turned off and no DLSS options. The card was hella expensive back when it came out, but the people that bought them are getting their moneyās worth on them in this crazed GPU market availability. Thereās no game available that it canāt handle at 1440P Ultra.
I think Iād like to see a comparison to Shaqās shoe. Or a footling sub.
@TheRedComet Eh, hunting for a new card is a nightmare without paying tons of money, I've already reserved the Deck so I'll stick with that.
@SuperZeldaFun Being caught out by a small banana really is a disappointing end to a Friday night.
How many Double Aās does it use?
I'm sorry but that is not a portable machine, and it also only runs on 3ish hours of battery. Just bring a laptop at that point.
Just looking at this blows my mind. As a kid in 1989/1990, I thought the original Game Boy was huge back then! How things have changed.
Amazing how NL feels the need to report on this and delete my comment pointing out the absurdity of them doing so.
I'm sorry it's "unconstructive," but I'm just pointing out that this article seems irrelevant to Nintendo enthusiasts on a site for enthusiasts.
@SuperZeldaFun lol what are you mad about exactly? What part of what I said can even remotely be called "woke?"
@axelhander I'm just a little confused as to why we care about how Steam Deck looks compared to anything.
If I wanted a Steam Deck, or cared about that news, I'd go elsewhere for that information. And when I first commented, the headline made no mention of the Switch.
I was tempted to put down a preorder but it looks huge and not sure of the quality. It's a lot to pay for something that might not hit the spot.
Can't wait for mine to arrive. I think I am in the second batch since mine is to dispatch in the second quarter.
Looks pretty ugly and way too bulky tbh
It's definitely not a good portable device, so Switch still beats it there
@axelhander you care, you replied to me. Lol
Probably the best shot was against a Wii U game pad, because that bugger was big. BIG.
Holy s**t that is one monstrous handheld, and I thought the original switch was big. Does this have any hdmi to TV compatibility? If so then I will just get it to use as a mini pc console
@UltimateOtaku91 There is going to be a dock sold for it but not sure if that will be sold at launch or later.
@UltimateOtaku91 Yeah that's why I'm getting it, you can get a usb type-c to hdmi and hook it up to a TV. It's eventually (sometime this year I guess) getting its own "dock" that'll have more options and stuff, but you can still hook it up to a TV right from the start with the cable.
I look forward to mine. I can play my nintendo first party games on the switch and a majority of the third party games on the steamdeck. The size is fine. It's perfectly portable to a hotel, to work, etc. Definitely not a bar, restaurant...I don't know..wherever else y'all be taking switches now a days.
@IronMan30 - I have a Steam Deck on pre-order. It's a long wait though, so I'm not looking anywhere for information, no reason to yet. I have a Switch, I use my Switch, I read NintendoLife... and "oooh, a Deck article, I'll read that as it's here. Interesting to see how it sizes up against the Switch".
So, not information I went out to look for, but as I'm here I'll read it, it's relevant to me. I dunno, perhaps it's just me and the site is tailoring articles just for me now.
This thing is massive... I'm not sure how I'll feel about it after long play sessions... Though considering how well the Switch has sold makes sense why Valve wants to jump in. But, this really feels like a first design pass and not a finished product... they really could not have slimed it out by half an inch?
@Mii_duck I guess so, they must have read your mind. I'm glad you found your site.
I already carry a Switch in a case and an analog pocket in a ds case, I GUESS I could take both out of my bag for this but....
You are better off getting a laptop then this would be way more portable
A laptop would be better and more portable
Cmon NintendoLife! You KNEW all the fanboys and girls were gonna get mad when you post anything about the steam deck but you did it anywayā¦for shame! šš
It is a chonk, but looks really comfortable to hold. Even handheld I only play at home so I don't mind the size. Those bezels are massive though.
@axelhander that was a very nonsensical reply. Have a good one.
The placement of the controls are to far up and should be more closer to the center or bottom for better grip.
Wow! steam Deck have EXACTLY the same size of other Steam Deck? Now I'm impressed!
Another apt comparison would be with a Wii Fit board. Now that could give us some sense of scale.
Certainly not hand held, looks ok on a technical level but the price is way to high !! Will stick with the Switch thanks. Also Kirby next month:)
Ya, the form factor has always looked ridiculous to me lol
It's big, fat, clunky, heavy, expensive, and the battery life is less than the majority of laptops.
But that's the price I intend to pay for the ability to play modded Skyrim on the toilet without having to resort to jailbreaking my Switch.
Don't know why people are complaining about the Dpad placement. If you need to use the buttons, you move your thumb to the side instead of down. And if you're playing a 2D game, your hand stays in the same position. Seems logical. Plus, there's the touch pads to consider
Those were some great shots, really good way to show how big it is. I also would have been curious to see it compared to the Xbox Duke Controller, an Xbox or Playstation console, a laptop or Chromebook, a big arcade stick, GBA Micro, iPhone, iPad, Playdate, and a Switch with controllers detached. Also maybe some comparisons of the width would have been interesting, looks a little thicker than a Switch, but I'm not sure.
lol, they could really had done a bit more work on the design. xD
I'm really excited about the Steam Deck, but it is one ugly piece of tech. You can tell Valve are software people. Still not quite as ugly as the Wii U controller mind you.
@PhhhCough perfect for the bathroom too š
@RasandeRose after feeling how uncomfortable the Aya Neo is for fps. I'm excited to experience how nice the Deck will be.
I still think the placement of the d-pad and ABXY buttons on the device looks super uncomfortable, though I'm really not sure how else you could situate them without further making it even larger and while still giving the touch pads decent placements. I dunno, maybe it could have done without the touch pads entirely and instead relied on motion control for those aspects of the device. I mean sacrifices are being made by the player to play on the go with the device as it is. Seems like a sacrifice that could really help with the overall comfort and size of the device.
I might buy this, just to get into PC gaming. My desktop computer can barely run Super Mario World hacks, it sure canāt run the average PC game.
@IronMan30 itās got pics of various Nintendo consoles/handhelds compared to it, itās fair game lol
I'm very tempted to get this once I feel a stronger attachment to my steam library. I mostly play 1st party nintendo games but slowly building up my steam side. Ive gotten to cozy with portable gaming and would love to try it woth a whole other section of games
It will still be just as playable as the Switch.
People act like they can't play it on the couch or on the toilet
I would be beyond embarrassed to whip this out on a bus or a plane or the cafeteria at my university. I'd only want to play it at home which begs the question, why not just play on my computer? I really think they should have tried to get it down to the size of the Switch, power sacrifice and all.
@nymbosox fair enough, I guess.
I always do a side by side comparison with a banana before buying any electronic equipment.
That said, I already find Switch just a tiny bit larger than ideal for traveling so I don't particularly want something larger. Also, 95% of the time I play games docked so a large expensive portable thing which plays only some steam games sounds pretty useless to me, especially since I could just use my laptop.
The placement of the d-pad and abxy buttons might look uncomfortable from these flat images but with the system being more bulky than Joy-con controllers it should feel more natural than it what it looks like.
@JakedaArbok This is exactly why I'm getting it. My PC struggles with anything on the new side of PC gaming, BUT I also like to play on the TV a decent bit.
Right now, I plan on using the Steam Deck in a docked fashion, much like the Switch.
For the entry price, I'm hoping it's a solid entry level type of gaming PC, and one that I can also bring out and about if I choose (which, I doubt, but it's not a bad option).
Also, I really do like the fact that Valve is not a publicly traded company, even though I know they're partnering with one/some to produce this. I would rather go this route, than get something like the Xbox and support Microsoft at this point.
@IronMan30 dont you think that perhaps your reaction is a little overkill? While the steamdeck may be not made my nintendo, its still a competitor, making it related (by extension). Listen man, ik youre gonna want to retort to this, but this isnt meant to be an argument starter. I just see people say stuff like that so often, that it becomes a little disheartening. Videogames are supposed to be FUN, so arguments about videogame articles not talking about what you expected is a little ironic in the grand scheme of things. Have a nice day!
WOW SteamDeck is huge, how can someone fit this console in a pocket?
Lot of jealous people in here! Lol Its already getting praise for how comfortable it is. Its arriving at a time when the Switch is showing its age tech wise. People pretend that the Switch is comfortable to hold. Far from it. Lastly...I like how people use the excuse of being embarrassed to be seen with it. Yet...you think your cool factor increases holding a Switch in public.
The Steamdeck on top of the Steamdeck gives me an idea of what a Steamdeck DS would look similar to. Embiggen. Overload.
I am so pumped for this! I can't wait until I get mine.
@Joeynator3000 Anything ..50 has only been good for more basic games. 1060 was good when it was released pushing many games that I was playing at 4k and upwards of 60fps.
I bought the Steam Deck because 80% of my time playing games is playing Steam on PC. Yes, I play more on PC than on Switch. So it makes sense to me. My all time favorite game, however, is Magic Arena (on Epic Games). And finally I will be able to play Magic on the go.
@Giancarlothomaz The Switch doesn't fit in my pocket. And as I find the ergonomics of the switch uncomfortable I still use a case to increase in size. So...none of the 2 fit in my pocket. Nor were they meant to be put in my pocket.
The X and Y buttons are in the wrong spot. X is supposed to be at the top and Y is supposed to be on the left. š
Calling the Deck Switch-like was funny the first and maybe second times, now it's just kinda old... Like don't get me wrong, I adore the Switch, but Jesus it's not the first handheld, the similarities stop pretty quickly...
@Axelay71 Switch is cheaper and has much more expensive games. Steam Deck is more expensive, but games are way, way, way, way, way, way, way cheaper.
I want to see one next to a car battery, which is needed power it and make it portable.
@Greatluigi a and b are fine for you?
Geezus. My wrists get noticeably sore enough after too much time playing the Switch in full handheld mode; if I tried to rassle with this monstrosity (which, looking it up, is nearly twice the weight), I think they'd just snap clean off.
This thing is RSI just waiting to happen, no joke.
@Bustacap oh my god I JUST looked at the picture and a and b are also on the wrong side! What where they thinking?!?
@Pineapple_Mohawk For me personally, I don't plan to travel with it as much as use it when away from my gaming setup in my own home. If I did travel with it, it would stay in whatever lodging I'm in.
@Greatluigi Nintendo and Sega/Microsoft/everyone else uses the opposite layout for A/B/X/Y. Started back on Dreamcast.
Oh wait itās taking its button placement from the Xbox controllers.
And the point of this article is?
@Fath The heft and apparent shape are supposed to help with that, but for the Switch, yeah, I wouldn't be able to play it handheld without either a good grip or the Hori joy-con replacements.
I see some third party carry cases are already on their way...
@Gwynbleidd And the point of your comment is?
What bothers me about this is those touch pads. Playing something like Half-Life or Portal portably sounds awesome in theory, but I feel like the mouse and keyboard is the best way to play those (or maybe something like Splatoon's motion controls), but those touch pads are not at all a good replacement for a mouse. I guess it wouldn't matter if you liked playing PC games just with a controller, but I think it would get on my nerves after a bit.
Kind of how the Steam controller is supposed to be made for Steam games, but playing Valves own FPS games it's not as comfortable as a keyboard and mouse. And something weird about the Steam controller, it doesn't work if Steam isn't running, so I wonder if the controls for the Deck are going to work right when not running Steam, especially on legacy titles that expect an Xbox controller or else.
@Nintendo_Thumb Being that the Steam Deck is basically a portable PC, having all controls not work just because Steam isn't running sounds like an idiotic design and I have a bit more faith in Valve to think they would design it that way, but I also don't have mine yet so can't tell you confidently if the controls would just stop working if you closed Steam.
I would also dare to say those in the market for a Steam Deck would likely prefer using controller for games over a mouse and keyboard because there's really no good portable mouse/keyboard substitute and based on the design, it's pretty obviously controller-based with some minor touchpad support. They're also releasing a dock to go full PC mode if you wanted the option to play an FPS with mouse and keyboard.
This is meant to alleviate your concerns, not to argue with them.
@nowthisisepic perhaps my comments can be taken as rude so I do apologize if I peeved you but I was just saying I didn't get the relevance. Sure, it's gaming news and there are ppl who want the Steam Deck, but Idk why NL feels the need to post about it. I get what you mean and it is fair to say gaming really isn't serious.
Anyway, I guess this is a long way of saying I could've expressed myself better.
@Nintendo_Thumb it's a pc, you can connect whatever you like to it, even a keyboard, a mouse and a monitor.
@Giancarlothomaz good luck trying to fit a Switch in your pocket.
I'm super pumped for this thing. It looks vastly more comfortable to hold than the Switch does, and the buttons and sticks aren't made for a tiny person. It can also play every Nintendo 64 game for free, no subscription required. Win, win, win!
I think OG Switch pretty much is at the limit in what I can accept for a portable system when comes to bulkiness/size, wight and batterylife. Deck is a good idea, but as it's just too big, plus only digital, with 2 hrs battery life. I think it should probably be sent back to the writing table. 64GB is really Nothing when it can't take any physical games. Nintendo Switch only works for me as the majority of the bigger games I own are on cartridge.
@Guitario š¤£š¤£š¤£ I try not to. I spend too much time there, as it is.
Looks perfect to me. I spend 99% of my switch gaming sessions sat on the sofa. I consider it more handheld than portable. So bigger the better if you ask me.
Probably the least ergonomic friendly portable gaming device I ever seen. Not just the size/weight but those button placements suck Somehow makes the Switch look way more comfortable
If it ends up with a dock I can maybe justify it at some point but I already have a PS4 for stuff switch canāt handle and will eventually have a PS5 so Iām not sure how much utility this would have for me.
All the complaints people made about the Switch when it was released, let's see if those same criticisms are given to the Deck. It's as if Steam built their system based solely on the negatives given to the Switch.
If only you put it next to a game boy micro
Andre the Giant could play that thing!
Iām not complaining, though. My hands are too big to play my Switch portable for long, so I invested in a Satisfye grip to make it bigger!
Thatās still a wee baby bear compared to the Steam Deck papa bear though.
@IronMan30 s'all good my dude, i get it. A lot of people have the same problem. thats why i try to write my comments in the most constructive way possible, to get this outcome of converstion. If I had just said mean things to you, we would have gotten nowhere! So thanks for being cool about this, really appreciate it!
I don't care how big it is, I just want to replace my Switch. I'm tired of all the problems I've had with this system, from the never-ending joy-con drift, regardless of how many fixes I do, to the controllers constantly losing connection mid-game, even when physically attached. Also tired of how many triple A games the Switch doesn't get. I want to retire my Switch as my portable system.
@TimGibson it would really fill an empty spot that right now is being only partially and hardly taken by the switch. Now I don't know how reliable valve is when it comes to hardware, but even if they don't do it, somebody else will sooner or later.
I can see this easily outselling the Switch by the end of the year.
@Quarth the year? Pffft, by the end of its first day of availability.
I'm fine with its size. Personally I find the switch too small for my hands. The WiiU gamepad was the most comfortable controller I've ever used, but was still a little small for my liking. I'd like to see how the steam deck feels in my hands before judging
Edit* Also, banana for scale. Imgur ftw
Hopefully it weighs a lot, runs really hot, and supports games with super tiny text.
@IronMan30 I give it to the halfway point of launch day before the Deck laps the DS family and Nintendo halts production on the Switch. At least they will have a nice swansong with BotW2.
And this is why some of you should stop whining and moaning about Switch being underpowered. You think it's easy to make a system that is powerful and also has a nice form factor, as well as a good price? Give me a break.
@TimGibson iām glad itās All of them. It makes it so much easier when shopping
@Madao Guess V2 will trim the bezels and add OLED....wait.
@Thatsalie Do you have any idea how many girls have Switches? Nobody is going to judge you for having a Switch in public when half of all women play Animal Crossing, especially if it's a Light. Good luck holding a monitor in your hands though bud.
@Quarth I feel like every new gaming device that is released people say that.
@Thatsalie I got a secret to tell you. Nobody gives a crap about how cool strangers think they are. Real life and high school are two different things.
@SpaceboyScreams Technically when you hold a phone or tablet you're holding a monitor...
@SpaceboyScreams your jealous is showing. š
Are these things shipping yet? The new Odin looks like a contender for folks who want something similar but smaller if emulation is all you're after
@TheRedComet Yeesh, don't just recommend Nvidia products, AMD's 5700 and 6600+ lines are all amazing too.
I've purchased x2 1070s, x1 1080 x1 1080ti and x3 6700XTs if you think I'm just being an AMD fanboy (which I am).
@TurboTEF oh, and I just got a 1030 for funsies recently too
the buttons on the right are so far on the edge of the system that it looks possibly uncomfortable..
Cary Golomb goes by āThe Phawxā on YouTube in case anyone is interested in videos which I can guarantee he will be posting so many that youāll know everything about it in a weeks time Iām sure.
Not 100% sure what Steam Deck really offers me over a laptop and a gamepad, so it's a pass from me.
How does the Steam Deck size compare to the egoās of @axelhander and @IronMan30 ?
looks like the buttons Y & B are on too edge of this ugly console, is it? and also looks like to heavy to play on hands for some hours
@IronMan30 Yeah, what was I thinking? Of course it will.
It'll probably sell pretty well, but I don't think it will be the Switch rival everyone is writing it up to be.
@Quarth yeah, I can see it selling fairly well but just existing in its own space alongside Switch. Then again, it could just sell a few million, or hundred thousand, and Valve will be okay with that (which is entirely possible since it's not selling at retail). Or it could force Nintendo's hand to change again because it cuts into Nintendo's market share. I think it's more the first than anything, but Idk. We'll see fairly soon how things will start shaking out.
@Dragonstar Get ready for a slew of new problems on your big fat Steam Deck, hahaha.
@IronMan30 These kind of complaints are starting to get quite annoying, you know? For one thing, this website isn't solely for the purpose of informing us and nowhere besides the title does it say anything about being exclusively Nintendo. There definitely is a large preference towards Nintendo, but there's no real mandate for them to limit their capabilities. It's fine to bring up off-topic discussions every now and then, especially if there's nothing else to talk about at the moment.
They've already done all they can to differentiate what's news and what's not news. Just read the damn article title. It says "Random:" which should be a very clear indicator that you don't HAVE to click on it. It is a much better and realistic option than simply not choosing to talk about it, not to mention the backlash this website would get if these guys DIDN'T talk about the slightly-off-topic ideas.
This is a neat bit of a kit but will only appeal to a very niche market. The Switch has mass appeal and thatās why it sells. The price for this as well is going to be far too prohibitive.
Oh my itās so large.
I wouldnāt mind one of these
Iāve always been an nVidia guy.
AMD makes good cards, though. And on the CPU front AMD is killing it on x86-64. Intel is still the best value for money for mid range builds but above that (and below that, weirdly enough) AMD is dominant.
@ModdedInkling I guess I should head to Pushsquare for Nintendo News, then. In any case, who cares what a bunch of trolls think? That's the only group of people who'd get mad about Nintendo news only on a Nintendo site, imo.
Anyway, I do this mostly because NL has some garbƔge articles, which I rarely click on. This just seemed like a special brand of dumb. Sorry if I bugged you, but you seem like the type who does prefer Nintendo and isn't just ironically using a Splatoon avatar so that's why I even bothered to engage in this talk with you. So it seems doubly puzzling that a guy who likes Nintendo cares about the trolls but you live your life how you want.
The people who are saying that it will be a switch rival are just wishful thinking at this stage.
For me I main on PC and I am getting then Steam Deck but I am seeing it as an extension to play most of my PC games in a portable fashion. Not all games will run optimal and later down the line (a few years) the steam deck will suffer just like the switch.
My only concern is Valve's track record with hardware. They have released many hardwares overs the years but their support hasn't been the best. The steam machines are really a grey area as those were licensed out rather then Valve doing it themselfs. The Index is really their first hardware that they showed support for. If the steam deck sells really well then we might see a update in hardware for it in the future.
@IronMan30 In case I didn't make myself clear, this is not an "all-or-nothing" case. PushSquare and PureXbox could very well be doing the same thing here with tidbits if news that "belong" to another group, if Sony and Microsoft had as little news as Nintendo does. The reality is that they do have a lot more news to share, which is why there isn't as much off-topic content as there is here.
And for the record, I have Xbox Game Pass on my gaming PC and I'm still trying to get a PS5. Obviously, you wouldn't know that until I told you, but assumptions are assumptions.
@ModdedInkling whatever the reason, NL is still egregious with their reporting. Half of it feels like crying about something and the other half is actual news. This is why I rarely click on articles like this. Further, I find the charge that there is more to cover on topic for Xbox or PS to be very debatable.
Also, don't conflate me saying you like Nintendo to mean you don't own or want multiple consoles. I have an XSX and have owned an Xbox since the 360, I also had a PS3. I prefer Nintendo, but have multiple consoles and didn't think you were a fanboy if that's what you believed I meant.
@IronMan30 this site is Nintendo in name-only. They love clickbait and putting positive spins on non-Nintendo items. Whereas, if you want to feel good news for Nintendo, go somewhere else.
What kills me with Nintendo Life, they wonāt cover the AYA NEO, OneXPlayer or the other handheld PCs. Quick clicks, if you Nintendo news, just go to IGN.
@IronMan30 I've seen worse than NintendoLife. Try ScreenRant/GameRant, who never do proper research on whatever game they're talking about. I'd rather have off-topic with proper research than on-topic articles lacking proper information.
@ModdedInkling that is a fair point, accuracy matters.
Please Nintendolife, stop calling PC gaming handheld Switch-like. They are tablet PCs with a built in controller. Also the controller is not removeable.
It is as dumb as this:
I use a switch lite for portable gaming as I find the standard switch too wide. I play a lot of rocket league and having you hands wide apart is not good for my gaming. The steam deck would be ridiculous.
Itās a bit large isnāt it
He also compared it to the Virtual Boy, the only thing that is bigger than the Steam Deck.
@SuperZeldaFun I can assure you that there are many places worse than this. I'm pretty sure there's a bigger reason why your comment got deleted than something personal.
I bought bananas today, after 3 full days of fasting. I had been thinking a lot about free bananas. And due to a mistake, I got them for free. Such things happen a lot to me. I had it with broccoli recently, and even with something as specific as pita bread with vegan kebab and hummus, that out of nowhere was given to me for free after thinking that I would like to buy some but bought broccoli for the dogs instead. Back on topic: bananas. They look nor taste anything like the steamdeck (taste is admittedly an assumption), what a weird comparison to make.
@HotGoomba it doesn't need them. It's so massive it has a gravitational pull effect on planet earth, if anything earth is now unstable.
Steam Deck = The Nomad of the HD era.
Wow the Steam Deck looks amazing! Even more whats inside this amazing hybrid console/pc. I have been collecting alot of games (even indie games) on steam that are ready to go lol. The tumbstick and DPad are made with so much high quality. I am glad i pre ordered this.
@SilentHunter382 Same here! I have a gaming pc a gaming laptop and a nintendo switch, i pre ordered the Steam deck to play all my games on the go. I loved every bit from what i saw already.
@SuperZeldaFun That's what she said...
My weiner is bigger that š
If there's one thing the Switch 2 needs, it's bigger joycons - ones that more rounded like the Wii Nunchuck
Will there be a XL version? Asking for Shaq.... a friend.
Didn't know this was SteamLife
@Joeynator3000 1050? I was able to use my gtx 970 and play on my tv. Is it your memory?
@The-Chosen-one I wouldnāt get your hopes up to much honestly.
This thing can only output what a ps4 would which means it is already last gen and people are paying even more for it. This will only be usable by pc games for maybe 2-3 years on new games.
I think the Steam Deck is bigger than my budget phone cuz it is smaller than my Switch Lite.
@Dirty0814 do you recall what level of comparative performance the switch had when it released in 2017? Because it sure wasn't anywhere close to a PS4 or even an Xbox One. It was, and still is, just nominally stronger than a PS3. That's why many people have been clamoring for literally anything that's a jump over the switch at a price that isn't crazy like current handheld PCs are and were massively disappointed when Nintendo announced the OLED instead of a pro last June because the way you said people will feel about the deck in 3 years is the way people have felt about the switch for at least 2.
*I am legally obligated by the SEC to disclose that I own a 50% stake in valve.
Talk to me when this gigantic garbage outsells the wii! For now, no one cares about the failed steam player
@Pineapple_Mohawk I don't see this succeeding at all. The battery is going to be horrible.
@FredsBodyDouble I also Hope Valve stops supporting it after a year or two, like they did with the 'Steam Machines', just so I can laugh at the people who wasted money on the steam deck š¤£
@Dirty0814 I can play on my TV, it's just I have to turn the settings to low...even the resolution which just makes everything look not worth it.
@sleepinglion Yeah 25 februari. The pre orderes went like crazy, everyone who place their orders now will get it somewhere Q4 i think. I preordered it the first week and have to wait till Q2 lol, so i hope some people cancel their order so i get mine early.
Iāll stick to my Switch because I donāt want to break my wrist.
Some comparison in raw power. Deck, Series X and ps5.

@Joeynator3000 What kinda tv do you have? Its strange that you have to turn the settings to low? Is it the geforce 1050 that you have?
Nice but I can play Persona 4 on my Vita thank you
@Joeynator3000 The Steamdeck will be roughly as powerful as your GTX 1050. Mind you, the GTX 1050 is not a very good card. That said, for a handheld device like Steamdeck itās still pretty cool.
@Dirty0814 a GTX 970 is significantly more powerful than a 1050
@TheRedComet Intels newest CPUs are superior to the best Ryzen chips in almost every way. I am and AMD fan but this is indisputable.
I always wanted a turbo express
I much prefer playing the Switch Lite over the OG Switch because it's more comfortable due to the lower weight.
I just couldn't see myself playing a handheld that big and like quarter kilo heavier than the original switch + Joycons.
@Joeynator3000 Idk if someone helped you with this but I wouldn't think the TV would really be an issue (unless it's like CRT) I have an AMD that is worse than ur GPU and it was hooked to an older TV and now a slightly newer but still nothing amazing.
Is it connected via HDMI? Is the TV display set to game mode, all enhancement settings off? PC video settings set to 1080p (or better?)
I'm thinking there must be a setting somewhere along the line. Even if the TV won't do 1080 then game settings should still be able to be set higher graphics but lower resolution.
@DABYX That's the thing, I don't even think I can do 1080p, which makes my games all pixelly...and some of them can't do fullscreen on the TV either. I have a 4K TV, so...yeah, it just looks meh...and it's a confusing mess to set everything up, like I said I'd rather just get this Deck and keep it simple. They said it should be good enough to display games in 4K which is why I'm going for it than to go insane trying to find a newer and more powerful card for a fortune.
@NintendoEternity You clearly havenāt seen any videos on the system. Watch Linus Tech Tips latest video. If you want this to fail I have bad news for you
@Lem1697 well the Steam Machines from Valve failed and GameStop couldnāt give them away. Hardly anyone remembers them. Iāll be shocked if this proves me wrong
@NintendoEternity The WiiU was one of the worst consoles of the century, but Look at Nintendo now
I wonder if NL will talk about the Odin...
Is Steam Deck implying you need big hardware to run high-demanding games? Just because, that size is impractical for a handheld.
