REED CITY — The latest addition to Reed City's downtown businesses, Toy Town, recently held its grand opening celebration Friday, April 1, complete with a visit from one jolly old man in red. 

The new toy store has been preparing for its grand opening since announcing its Reed City location in early March. The first Toy Town store opened in Cadillac. 

The new location's grand opening included a painting station, racks of nearly every toy imaginable and a play area with rideable wheeled toys. 

Owner Thaddeus Gommesen told the Pioneer prior to the grand opening that the store will maintain an open-box policy, allowing kids to test out toys prior to purchasing them to ensure they want them. 

The store also included sales on classic wooden toys from Melissa & Doug, a decades-old manufacturer of wooden toys.

The highlight of the grand opening was an appearance from Santa Claus himself, who walked around with children and asked about their favorite toys and which ones were on their lists for next Christmas.
